Wet Belts

Wet Belt Replacement Service

If your vehicle uses a wet belt system (a timing belt that runs directly inside the engine oil), staying on top of its replacement isn't just regular maintenance—it’s vital to saving your engine.

Unlike traditional dry timing belts, wet belts require specialized expertise, specific tools, and precise handling. Our certified technicians specialize in wet belt inspection and replacement to keep your engine running smoothly and prevent catastrophic failure.

We specialise in replacing Wet Belts and cover most of Kent for this service.

What is a Wet Belt, and Why Does It Need Replacing?

A wet belt (or "belt-in-oil" system) was introduced by manufacturers like Ford (EcoBoost engines) and Peugeot/Citroën (PureTech engines) to reduce friction, improve fuel economy, and lower emissions.

However, because the belt constantly sits in engine oil, it is highly sensitive to oil degradation. Over time, standard wear or using the wrong type of oil causes the belt to break down. Debris from the degrading belt can clog your oil pump strainer, starving the engine of oil and leading to total engine failure.

Signs Your Wet Belt Needs Immediate Attention

You shouldn't always wait for the manufacturer's recommended mileage interval. Bring your car to us immediately if you notice:

  • The Oil Pressure Warning Light: Often the first sign that belt debris is clogging the oil pickup.

  • Engine Misfires or Loss of Power: If the belt has stretched, your engine's timing will be thrown off.

  • A Grinding or Ticking Noise: A sign of mechanical distress due to poor oil circulation.
